Welcome to Term 3!
Busy semester ahead with the Space Race concert with the ASO, the YAV Christmas Concert and Carols by Candlelight.
As you may also have realised, we will be recommencing Musicianship with Marg Lange this semester. Marg brings a wealth of experience and will be working with us to give us skills in rhythm, pitch, intonation, sight-singing and melody. Marg, Aidan and I regularly discuss what we will be covering in musicianship in the aim that it helps us with our repertoire and the development of our singing.
Our repertoire this semester will be largely based on the three very exciting events. Our songs for the Christmas Concert (as chosen by you) are:
- Sleigh Bells – a popular Ukranian melody arranged by Earlene Rentz (https://www.jwpepper.com/sheet-music/media-player.jsp?&type=audio&productID=10027466)
- You’re a Mean One Mr Grinch – featured in Dr Seuss ‘How the Grinch Stole Christmas’ arranged by Jeff Funk (https://www.jwpepper.com/sheet-music/media-player.jsp?&type=audio&productID=3262110)

Dear friends and supporters,
Aurora has been invited to be one of the guest artists at the Desert Song Festival in Alice Springs. We are sharing performances with many amazing vocal groups as well as working with the Soweto Gospel Choir and the Darwin’s Arafura Collective.
This opportunity has been more of a last minute one than expected, so with the incredible generosity of St Peter’s Cathedral, we are going to pop up and perform our touring repertoire at 3pm on Sunday 25 August at St Peter’s Cathedral.
What do you need to do?
Just be there and ready to listen to our repertoire – we’ll even give you the opportunity to move seats to listen to repertoire differently if you fancy. Just act surprised when we turn up. It doesn’t cost you anything.
What’s in store?
A variety of Australian and international works, with the first performance development of “Lost”, composed by YAV’s Composer in Residence Rachel Bruerville, with inspiration from the Aurora girls. Included in the selection are works by David John Lang, Ross Edwards, Kate Miller-Heidke, Ola Gjeilo and JS Bach.
Let us sing for you!
Aurora goes pop! A pop-up performance in preparation for the Desert Song Festival in Alice Springs 6 – 15 September 2019
Magically appearing at 3pm in St Peter’s Cathedral, King William Road, North Adelaide, Sunday 25th Aug.
Duration 45 minutes unless I get chatty…
Please can we remind you that there is absolutely no parking in the church car park on Wednesday and Thursday rehearsal nights.
This is in the interest of safety for all of our choristers.
Please park on one of the streets around the church grounds.

We have a pizza night coming up where we view our recent concert performance and eat pizza! A variety of pizzas will be on offer as well as soft drinks. Enjoy the winter break – MVG rehearsals begin again on Thursday 25th July, we will be working towards our performance with ASO for ‘Space Race’ in September: https://www.aso.com.au/events/space-race/
This evening our choristers will be bringing home a booklet of People’s Choice Community Lottery tickets to sell. There are 10 tickets per booklet and are to the value of $20 – each ticket being $2 each.
There are some fantastic prizes to be won (if you are not in it you can’t win it!) which include cars, landscaping packages, electrical packages and many, many more.
Best of all 100% of sales money comes to Young Adelaide Voices so this is a fantastic fundraiser for us!!
All you need to do is sell the 10 tickets and return the ticket stubs to the office with your $20 sales money (please fill in stubs correctly). Ideally we would like money back in before the end of the term (we like to set a challenge every now and then!). Please be mindful that if you lose the booklet – we lose the money. Pretend it’s gold and treat it as such 🙂
Thank you for your continued support and happy selling!
We are seeking raffle prize donations – please drop suitable items in to the office this week at rehearsal.
